CHAPTER 2 - Writers Block?

Hello again,

I don't have any plans to turn this blog into a travel one, but I would like to take this opportunity to recommend visiting where it is I am connecting from  and that is the beautiful town of Cazorla here in the south of Spain. Even when it's raining cats and dogs, like it was yesterday and will be today, Cazorla is a magical place with many postcard views to enjoy.

I'll try to keep this week's post short and to the point and what I'd like to talk about today is: trying to keep yourself inspired.

I don't really like the term "writer's block", but I do know that inspiration comes and goes and when it goes, it can be a god-awful feeling... if you allow it to be.

Writer's block, or whatever else you want to call it, doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. In fact, when it hits me, and it does, I embrace it and remind myself of what it is: part of the journey. I also remind myself that it's a state of mind.

Instead of moping and feeling sorry for myself I remind myself that what is happening is only temporary but I also remind myself that I now have precious time to use wisely, and that's just what I do.

Can't write? Participate more in conversations. Participate less in conversations. Listen more. Be more present. Read more. Watch a film. Watch two films. Go for a walk, but don't just go - experience it.

By moaning and telling the world and his wife that you've got "writer's block" is only going to worsen your dilemma so try to embrace it. I like to see it as a positive thing and that way, no day is wasted. Instead of labelling it as "writer's block" and feeling more and more miserable, I take my creative engine to the pitstop and fuel up on things that will help me on my journey.

We're all built differently and this advice won't apply to everybody, but anybody reading is welcome to take what they need.

  1. Good words to live by, Craig. Like you say, not only for writer's block, but for whenever you're feeling uninspired.
