Well, it was good but...

Everybody has the right to write but if you're a little too thin-skinned and if criticism is something that is hard for you to take then perhaps you should just stick to diary writing and shopping lists. In other words, don't go online or expose your writing to the big bad world.

All of the posts I've uploaded are from the mind and the experience of an amateur writer. What I do works for me at this moment in time and even though my output is nothing compared to that of a professional, my work is out there and there's every possibility that crisitism could come my way... and it will, but I can rest easy knowing that I am mentally prepared.

As an amateur writer I know that I'm bound to get more criticism than praise, and I'm fine with that. Of course, we would all like the latter, but if you accept criticism, you'll grow as a writer.

In my experience as a writer I'm fortunate, or should that be unfortunate(?), that I haven't received much crisitism, but I will. And I'll be ready.

How will I be ready? Well, I'll take it as I've taken the criticism which I've received in other areas of my life over the course of it: openly and willingly. Let's be honest for a second: we never do like getting it, but if we just try to let go of the ego for a second and try to see the bigger picture, it can work wonders.

If your piece really is shite and it's not just someone trying to put your work down, then best to make some changes, but be sure to get plenty of opinions. It's true that we have to write for ourselves but if there's money to be made, it's not a bad idea to do some tweaking.

There's going to be lots of rejection letters - some guy called Stephen King recieved plenty before he made it. So keep shooting. Maybe your manuscript just isn't suitable for one company, but another one would cut their arm off to have it. So keep at it.

It's like doing job interviews. You won't find your dream job after doing just one interview. You might, but it's very unlikely. So, get back up on the horse. Reload and shoot again. But don't take it too personally. And also remember: nobody is going to remember it in 100 years.
